Scoring & Sources
Questionnaires
The full test uses the 50-item IPIP representation of Goldberg’s Big Five factor markers. The short test uses the 20 Mini-IPIP items, interleaved by trait. Both use the original public-domain item wording and five accuracy response options. Four items per trait are used in the short test; ten in the full test.
The Mini-IPIP source scores neuroticism. We reverse that whole dimension and label it emotional stability to match the full test: relaxed and seldom-blue responses score toward stability, while upset and mood-swing responses score toward reactivity. Our fifth trait is intellect & imagination, related to but not identical to broader openness.
Transparent scoring
Responses run from 1 (very inaccurate) to 5 (very accurate). Positively keyed items retain the answer; negatively keyed items use 6 minus the answer. We average the keyed answers for each trait. All questions must be answered.
Example: responses 5, 4, 2, 1 on two positive and two reverse-keyed items become 5, 4, 4, 5. The mean is 4.5 / 5. Its possible-range position is (4.5 − 1) × 25 = 87.5 / 100, rounded to 88. This does not mean higher than 88% of people.
Interpretation limits
No population norms are used. We do not produce percentiles, diagnoses, career predictions, or fixed types. Descriptive text below 2.5, from 2.5 to 3.5, and above 3.5 uses editorial display bands rather than validated thresholds. Original research on an instrument does not validate this website or its result descriptions.
The short test samples fewer behaviors. The versions share items and are not independent assessments. Your answers, context, and understanding of the wording affect results. There is no timer and no universal ideal profile.
